MacKinnon
Transport Inc.
is built on a rich family and corporate history.
With over 75 years of experience in tandem and van transportation
logistics, MacKinnon
Transport Inc. is the carrier of choice.
The company began in 1929 with Leslie and Stella MacKinnon. It ran for 17 years as a one
truck company with 125 customers. In 1943, their son, Bill obtained his driver's license
and a second truck expanded the business. Leslie based his successful business on trust; his
handshake was his bond and he treated all his customers in the same manner. Leslie also
took great pride in knowing each employee and their family members. In 1959, Leslie and
Bill purchased the first terminal on highway #6 at the south end of Guelph. Then, in 1988,
15.6 acres of land were purchased from the city of Guelph in the Hanlon industrial park,
where it remains today.
In 1990, Ray Haight, the founder of Southwestern Express, and Evan MacKinnon, a principal
of MacKinnon Transport, were introduced to one another through a common accounting firm.
MacKinnon Transport, a Company that operates throughout Ontario and Quebec, felt that due
to the free-trade agreement, opportunities for new growth would come from expansion into
broader geographical markets.
In 2000, MacKinnon Transport Inc. comes to light, incorporating both MacKinnon
Transport Limited and Southwestern Express to strategically position both the van and
tandem division for continued excellence in customer service for the new millennium.
